Surprisingly, the Google smartphone business is not doing as bad as we are expecting it would be.
According to IDC, the popular search engine had an excellent year in 2019. The search giant shipped 7.2 million smartphones, the phenomenal growth of 52% compared to 2018. It did not just record growth, but it overtook OnePlus in terms of smartphone shipment. It is still a long path for both the companies, as they are far from entering the list of top 10 smartphone makers in the world, in terms of shipment.

Surprisingly, the previous reports indicate that the Pixel 3a and Pixel 4 sold less in the first two-quarters of their availability than Pixel 3 in the same quarter.

However, Google made its Pixel smartphones available for sale in three new markets last year (and at this pace, maybe their smartphone business reached worldwide in a few centuries).
Although their smartphone sales in 2019 are weaker than in 2018, they still are moving at a steadier pace.
Google still needs a lot of time to compete with the big smartphone makers, but at least its smartphone sales are increasing.
Let’s see what Google will present to users this year with a continual delay in Pixel 4a. Rumors are also suggesting that they might dump a flagship chipset for its Pixel 5 lineup.
