The salon looks like it’s been running on the same loop for years. An old Bollywood track plays low on the radio. Every customer in the row has the same cut, the same wait, the same silence. Nobody questions it. Nobody’s supposed to.
Then the door opens, and the room doesn’t recover. Faris Shafi walks in wearing none of it, not the look, not the pace, not the agreement to blend in. The barber asks the routine question. Faris doesn’t answer it the routine way. He just turns to the mirror, holds something up, and says three words: “Make me look hot.”
The track cuts. The beat drops. And when Faris turns back around, he’s someone the wall of reference cuts never offered. The barber’s smiling before he can stop himself. The row of customers isn’t waiting anymore, they’re watching.
Here’s the part nobody sees coming: they don’t copy him. One by one, each person picks up their own phone, looks into that same mirror, and walks out with something that belongs to no one else in the room. Not a single matching cut left by the end.
The camera holds on the group stepping out together, none of them looking alike, all of them looking like themselves. Faris turns, faces the lens, and closes it out.
