In Punjab, check an e-challan at echallan.psca.gop.pk by entering your vehicle registration number and CNIC (or chassis number). In Islamabad, use the ITP portal at traffic.islamabadpolice.gov.pk/Echallan with your vehicle number and CNIC. Both checks are free. This guide covers the required details, how to pay through e-Pay Punjab, what to do when no challan appears, and how to dispute a wrong ticket.

What is an e-challan

An e-challan is a traffic violation ticket generated by camera or by a traffic officer and stored in a central system. In Punjab it is handled by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), which is why the portal is on the psca.gop.pk domain. In Islamabad it is issued by the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP). Because the ticket is digital, you can search it by vehicle and owner details, print it, and pay it without visiting a police office.

An e-challan is linked to the vehicle and the registered owner’s CNIC, not to a mobile number. That is why CNIC alone is not enough for a search: the system needs the plate or chassis to identify the vehicle.

Method 1: Check a Punjab e-challan on the PSCA portal

  1. Open echallan.psca.gop.pk.
  2. Enter your vehicle registration plate number in the format shown on the page.
  3. Enter the owner’s 13-digit CNIC without dashes, or the chassis number.
  4. Complete any verification shown and submit.
  5. Review the list of unpaid challans, including date, location, violation and amount.

If the portal shows more than one ticket, check the dates and locations before paying so you do not clear a challan that belongs to another vehicle with a similar plate.

Method 2: Check through the e-Pay Punjab app

  1. Install or open the e-Pay Punjab app.
  2. Choose Punjab Police, then E-Challan (Safe City).
  3. Enter the vehicle registration number.
  4. Enter the CNIC of the owner or the chassis number.
  5. Search and select the challans you want to clear.
  6. Generate the payment slip and pay through the available channel.

The app is convenient because it keeps a record of the payment. Keep the confirmation or PSID until the challan disappears from the portal, which can take some time after payment.

Method 3: Check an Islamabad e-challan

  1. Open traffic.islamabadpolice.gov.pk/Echallan.
  2. Enter the vehicle registration number.
  3. Enter the owner’s CNIC without dashes.
  4. Submit and review the violation details.
  5. Use the portal’s secure payment option or follow the instructions shown.

The Islamabad system is separate from the Punjab system. A vehicle registered in Punjab will not appear on the ICT portal, and an Islamabad challan will not appear on PSCA unless the systems share the record.

Details you need before searching

  • Vehicle registration number: the plate exactly as issued, without extra spaces or decorative characters.
  • CNIC: the registered owner’s 13-digit number, without dashes.
  • Chassis number: an alternative on the Punjab portal when the CNIC is not available.
  • Challan number: useful for a dispute or a support call, but not always required for the search.

Details must match the registration record. If the vehicle was sold and the transfer was never completed, the challan may still appear against the old owner, which is one reason to finish the transfer paperwork promptly.

How to pay an e-challan

After you find the challan, the portal or app generates a payment reference. In Punjab, the payment is normally completed through e-Pay Punjab or a participating bank channel. In Islamabad, use the secure payment option on the police portal. Always pay through the official portal or app and keep the receipt.

Do not pay a roadside agent or a random account number. A payment made outside the official system may not clear the challan, and you will have no proof that you paid it.

No challan found: what it means

  • The vehicle has no recorded violation in that system.
  • The plate or CNIC was typed incorrectly.
  • The challan was issued in another province or by another authority.
  • The record has not yet been uploaded after a camera or officer-issued ticket.

Try the chassis number, check the plate format, and allow a day or two for a new ticket to appear. If you received a physical or SMS notice but the portal shows nothing, contact the issuing authority with the notice details.

How to dispute a wrong e-challan

  1. Note the challan number, date, time, location and the vehicle plate.
  2. Collect evidence: registration documents, transfer papers, photos, or proof that the vehicle was elsewhere.
  3. Contact the issuing authority — PSCA or the relevant traffic police — through the official helpline or office.
  4. Quote the challan number and explain the error clearly.
  5. Keep a copy of the complaint and follow up until the status changes.

Do not ignore a wrong challan. Unpaid tickets can block vehicle registration, transfer or driving licence services, so resolve the record even when you believe it is mistaken.

Common problems and fixes

Problem Likely cause Fix
No record found Typo, wrong province or delayed upload Recheck plate and CNIC, try chassis, wait 24 to 48 hours
Page will not load Traffic or maintenance Retry later or use the app
Payment not reflected Processing delay or wrong channel Keep the receipt and follow up after 24 hours
Challan shows after sale Ownership transfer not completed Complete the transfer and dispute with proof
Captcha or code error Expired session Reload and submit again

Avoid unofficial challan websites

Several third-party sites offer a challan check and then charge a service fee. They cannot clear a challan for you, and some collect CNIC and vehicle details unnecessarily. Use only the PSCA portal, the e-Pay Punjab app, the Islamabad police portal, or the official provincial traffic site. The check itself is free.

Other provinces

Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan run their own traffic systems, with different portals and payment methods. Start from the provincial police website and confirm the domain before entering your CNIC. Do not assume a Punjab challan will appear on another province’s portal.
