To check a NADRA application, send your Tracking ID (digits only) to 8400 from a Pakistani mobile number, or sign in to the Pak ID portal at id.nadra.gov.pk and open Existing Applications. The Tracking ID is the reference number printed on your application receipt or sent in your confirmation SMS or email. It is not your CNIC number. This guide explains every official channel, what each status means, how long each stage normally takes, and what to do when the tracker shows no record.
NADRA tracking at a glance
| Method | What you need | Best for | Login |
|---|---|---|---|
| SMS to 8400 | Tracking ID, Pakistani mobile number | Quick status on any phone | No |
| Pak ID portal | Pak ID account and Tracking ID | Detailed application view | Yes |
| PakID app | Pak ID account | Tracking on the go | Yes |
| Helpline 1777 | Tracking ID | Stuck or missing applications | No |
Tracking ID vs CNIC number
| Detail | What it is | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Tracking ID | Reference number for one application | Application receipt, confirmation SMS or email |
| CNIC number | Your 13-digit identity number | Printed on your CNIC card |
| Which one to use | Use the Tracking ID to follow an application | The CNIC number alone cannot look up application progress |
Every application gets its own Tracking ID. If you applied for a CNIC and later for an FRC, the two IDs are different. Keep the receipt for each one, because the tracking system looks up the application, not the person.
Where to find your Tracking ID
- On the printed application receipt from the NADRA office or franchise.
- In the confirmation SMS or email sent when you submitted the application.
- In the Pak ID portal or PakID app under Existing Applications, if you applied online.
- From the embassy or consulate receipt, if you applied through a Pakistani mission.
Do not confuse the Tracking ID with the token number or the application number written elsewhere on the form. If a number returns no record, try the other reference numbers on the receipt before calling support.
Method 1: SMS 8400 (fastest)
- Open your phone’s messaging app.
- Type your Tracking ID with no spaces, hyphens or words.
- Send it to 8400 from a Pakistani mobile number.
- Read the reply. It states the current stage of your card.
No login is required. 8400 is a paid shortcode, so standard NADRA SMS charges apply per message. The SMS channel works from any major Pakistani network, including a Pakistani SIM on roaming.
Why 8400 may not reply
- You included spaces, hyphens or extra words.
- You are texting from a foreign number that is not on a Pakistani network.
- Your SMS balance is empty or the shortcode is congested.
- The Tracking ID belongs to an application that has not reached the tracking database yet.
Retry with digits only, then use the Pak ID portal. The two channels update from the same record, so a working portal confirms the ID is valid.
Method 2: Pak ID portal
- Open the Pak ID portal at id.nadra.gov.pk and sign in.
- Accept the terms.
- Select CNIC or NICOP and choose Apply Now.
- Open Existing Applications.
- Select your Tracking ID to see the current status and details.
The portal shows more detail than SMS, but it requires a Pak ID account. If you applied at a NADRA office and never created an account, the SMS route or helpline is quicker.
Method 3: Pak ID mobile app
Download Pak Identity (the PakID app) from the App Store or Google Play, sign in, and open your applications. The app uses the same account and tracking data as the portal, so it is useful if you applied online. It also stores your application list, which saves you from re-entering the Tracking ID each time.
Method 4: NADRA helpline and complaints
- Dial 1777 from a Pakistani mobile, 24 hours a day.
- From overseas, call +92 51 111 786 100.
- Email csd@nadra.gov.pk for documented queries.
- Lodge a formal complaint at complaints.nadra.gov.pk.
Keep your Tracking ID and CNIC number ready before you call. For a complaint, write down the dates of your application, biometric verification and any previous calls so the agent can trace the file.
What each NADRA tracking status means
| Status | Meaning | What you should do |
|---|---|---|
| In process | The application has been received and is in the queue. | Wait and recheck after a few days. |
| Verification | Documents and biometrics are being checked. | Make sure your fingerprints and photo were recorded correctly. |
| Printing | The card is being printed. | No action; printing cannot be expedited by calling. |
| Dispatched | The card has been sent to your address or mission. | Watch for delivery contact and keep your phone reachable. |
| Ready for collection | Collect it as instructed in your status message. | Take your original CNIC or receipt to the collection point. |
Status words can differ slightly between SMS and the portal, but the sequence is the same. A status that has not changed for weeks is a reason to call 1777, not to submit a second application.
How long does NADRA tracking take?
Processing time depends on the application type, verification results and delivery address. Normal CNIC renewals usually move faster than first-time or correction cases, and mission applications add delivery time. Rather than relying on a fixed number of days, track the stage and act when a stage stalls. If your status has not changed for an extended period, contact NADRA with your Tracking ID.
Can I track someone else’s application?
Only if they share the Tracking ID with you. The system does not allow a name, CNIC number or phone number lookup. NADRA also warns citizens not to post Tracking IDs publicly, because anyone holding the ID can see the application stage.
Applied at a Pakistani mission abroad?
Use the Pak ID portal or app if you have an account, call +92 51 111 786 100 with your Tracking ID, or contact the embassy or consulate where you submitted the application. The same status stages apply to NICOP and POC applications. For mission applications, the final stage may say ready for collection at the mission rather than at a domestic NADRA office.
Why old NADRA tracking links do not work
NADRA’s 2026 website relaunch retired the old public tracking page. If a link to nadra.gov.pk/pak-id-tracking does not open, use SMS 8400, the Pak ID portal, the PakID app or the helpline instead. Old blog posts that point to the retired page are the main reason people think tracking is broken.
Tracking problems and fixes
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Invalid Tracking ID | Spaces, hyphens or a wrong reference number | Remove spaces and confirm the ID on the receipt |
| No record found | Very new application or wrong ID | Wait 24 to 48 hours, then retry |
| Captcha not loading | Network or browser issue | Reload the code, switch networks or use another browser |
| SMS not delivered | Foreign number, low balance or congestion | Use a Pakistani SIM or the portal |
| Status stuck for weeks | Verification or delivery issue | Call 1777 with your Tracking ID |
| Lost Tracking ID | Receipt or message misplaced | Check email and SMS, then call support |
Tracking vs CNIC verification
Tracking shows where an application is in the process. It does not verify whether a CNIC is genuine or match a name to a number. Organisations that need identity verification use NADRA’s authorised services, such as Verisys, with the person’s consent. Individuals who need a replacement or renewal should start a new application rather than searching for a verification shortcut.
Keep your data safe
- Never post your Tracking ID or CNIC on social media or in public comment sections.
- Only use id.nadra.gov.pk, the PakID app and the 8400 number.
- Ignore callers who ask for your Tracking ID, OTP or a fee to speed up printing.
- Check the application stage yourself instead of paying an agent for updates.
Frequently asked questions
How can I check my NADRA tracking ID online?
Sign in at id.nadra.gov.pk, open Existing Applications and select your Tracking ID. If you do not have an account, send the Tracking ID to 8400 by SMS.
Can I track my CNIC using only my CNIC number?
No. The CNIC number identifies the card, not the application. You need the Tracking ID or a Pak ID account.
What is the NADRA tracking SMS number?
8400. Send only your Tracking ID, with no spaces or extra words, from a Pakistani mobile number.
Is the 8400 SMS free?
No. It is a paid shortcode, so standard NADRA SMS charges apply per message.
How long does NADRA take to deliver a CNIC?
It varies by application type, verification and delivery address. Track the stage rather than relying on a fixed timeline, and call 1777 if a stage stalls for weeks.
What does dispatched mean on NADRA tracking?
The card has left the production facility and is on its way to your address or mission. Keep your phone reachable for delivery contact.
What does ready for collection mean?
The card is available at the stated collection point. Take your original CNIC or receipt and collect it during office hours.
Can I track a NICOP, POC or FRC?
Yes. The same channels handle CNIC, NICOP, POC and family registration applications; use the Tracking ID issued for that application.
What if my tracking ID is lost?
Check the receipt and the confirmation SMS or email first. If you still cannot find it, call 1777 or contact NADRA support for recovery.
Does tracking show my personal details?
No. It shows application progress, not your full identity record. Never post your Tracking ID publicly or share it with strangers.
Why does my tracking ID show no record?
New applications can take 24 to 48 hours to appear, and a mistyped ID also returns no record. Recheck the digits, then try the portal before calling support.
Can someone else track my application?
Only if you give them the Tracking ID. NADRA does not allow lookups by name, CNIC or phone number.
Is there a NADRA tracking app?
Yes, the Pak Identity (PakID) app on the App Store and Google Play shows your applications after you sign in with your Pak ID account.
Is tracking the same as CNIC verification?
No. Tracking shows application progress. Identity verification is a separate service used by authorised organisations with the person’s consent.
