You can check how many SIMs are registered against your CNIC through PTA’s SIM Information System in two ways: send your 13-digit CNIC (no dashes) to 668, or enter it at cnic.sims.pk. Neither service reveals the name or CNIC of the person using a mobile number, because PTA does not publish owner details. This guide covers every official check, what each reply actually means, how to remove SIMs you do not recognise, and the mistakes that make people think their record is wrong.

What is PTA’s SIM Information System?
The SIM Information System is a free PTA service that tells a CNIC holder how many mobile connections are registered in their name. It exists to help people find unauthorised SIMs, stay inside the legal limit and protect themselves from SIM-swap fraud. The system is tied to your CNIC, not to a phone number, so it cannot be used to look up another person.
There are two official front ends: the 668 SMS shortcode and the cnic.sims.pk website. Both draw on the same operator records, so the totals should match. If they differ, wait 24 hours and check again before assuming a SIM was added.
Method 1: Check SIMs on your CNIC by SMS (668)
- Open your phone’s messaging app.
- Type your 13-digit CNIC number with no dashes, spaces or words. For example: 6110123456789.
- Send it to 668.
- Read the automated reply. It states how many SIMs are active against your CNIC, normally split by operator.
The reply is a count, not a list. It will not show the mobile numbers themselves. That is deliberate: the service confirms your exposure without exposing connections that belong to someone else who may share a family CNIC.
Why 668 may not reply
- You included dashes, spaces or your name in the message.
- You sent fewer or more than 13 digits.
- Your SMS balance is empty or the shortcode is temporarily congested.
- The SIM you are texting from is not active on a Pakistani network.
Retry with digits only, then try the website. The SMS channel and the portal are independent, so one working proves the record is available.
Method 2: Check online at cnic.sims.pk
- Open cnic.sims.pk in any browser.
- Enter your 13-digit CNIC number without dashes.
- Complete the captcha shown on the page.
- Click Submit.
- Review the count and the network breakdown.
Foreign nationals can switch to the Foreign ID option on the same page and enter their document number. The portal is free and does not require an account.
Method 3: Check which network a number belongs to (76367)
PTA’s SIM Information System also lists a network-check service. Send N 03xxxxxxxxx — the letter N, a space, then the mobile number — to 76367. The service costs Rs 2 + tax and returns the operator. It does not return the owner’s name, CNIC or address.
This is useful before a complaint or when you need to know which franchise to visit. It is not proof of ownership, and it cannot tell you who is using the number.
What SIM owner details actually means
People often use the phrase SIM owner details to mean two different things:
- Registration details: which SIMs are registered against a CNIC. This is what PTA lets you check for your own CNIC.
- Ownership identity: the name and CNIC behind a specific number. This is not public. Only the operator holds it, and it is released to law enforcement or through a lawful request.
Confusing the two is why so many searches end on unofficial websites that promise a lookup and then ask for your CNIC, a photo of your card or a payment. Those sites cannot deliver the data they promise.
Why SIM database and pak sim data sites are risky
There is no public SIM database in Pakistan. Sites using those phrases usually do one of three things: collect CNIC images for identity theft, charge for a fake result, or serve malware. Some combine an old leaked dataset with a search box to appear legitimate. Even if a result looks real, using it can expose you to legal risk because the underlying data was obtained illegally.
Stick to the two PTA channels, and never upload your CNIC to a site that is not an official government or operator domain.
How to check your own mobile number
There is no single nationwide USSD code that works on every network. Your operator’s app, SIM packaging or customer care can confirm the number registered to your SIM. Avoid random codes copied from social media, and never share an OTP you receive during the check.
Found a SIM you do not recognise? Disown it
- Note which operator the extra SIM belongs to from the 668 reply.
- Go to that operator’s customer service centre or franchise.
- Carry your original, valid CNIC.
- Complete biometric verification.
- Ask the representative to disown the numbers you do not use.
- Keep the receipt and note the date.
Removal usually completes within 24 to 48 hours, and the count should drop after that. If you are reporting a SIM activated without your knowledge, say so clearly — this is a fraud case, not a routine cancellation.
If the franchise refuses to help
File a complaint with the PTA Complaint Management System at complaint.pta.gov.pk or call 0800-55055. Describe the issue as unauthorised SIM activation against your CNIC. Include the operator, franchise location, the date you visited, the 668 reply and any reference number the franchise gave you. A written complaint with dates is far more effective than a phone call alone.
How many SIMs can one CNIC hold?
PTA’s current limit is five SIMs per CNIC. Once five connections are active, a sixth cannot be issued until an existing SIM is deactivated or transferred. If your 668 count is already at five, disown anything you do not use before applying for a new SIM.
667 vs 668 vs 76367: what each code does
| Shortcode | What it does | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|
| 668 | Shows how many SIMs are registered on your CNIC | Does not list the numbers or show owners |
| 667 | Returns mobile number portability status | Does not reveal the owner’s name |
| 76367 | Returns the network of a number | Does not reveal the owner’s identity |
Can a business verify a customer’s identity?
Organisations can use NADRA’s authorised verification services, such as Verisys, with the person’s consent. That is the legal route for employers, landlords and financial institutions. There is no public tool that turns a mobile number into a name, and using leaked data for that purpose can violate Pakistan’s data-protection and cybercrime laws.
Protect your CNIC and your SIM
- Check your SIM count with 668 every few months.
- Never share clear photos of your CNIC on WhatsApp or social media.
- Never share an OTP, even with someone claiming to be from your operator.
- If your CNIC is lost, report it to NADRA and file a police report so there is a record.
- Disown unknown SIMs immediately — activity on them is traced to your CNIC.
- Keep your SIM PIN enabled and report a lost SIM to your operator the same day.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check SIM owner details by number?
You cannot get the owner’s name or CNIC from an official service. You can check the network of a number by sending N 03xxxxxxxxx to 76367, and you can check how many SIMs are registered on your own CNIC using 668.
How can I check how many SIMs are registered on my CNIC?
Send your 13-digit CNIC without dashes to 668, or enter it at cnic.sims.pk and complete the captcha. Both return a count, usually split by network.
Does 668 show the actual mobile numbers registered on my CNIC?
No. It returns the count by network. To see and close specific connections, visit the operator’s franchise with your original CNIC and complete biometric verification.
Is the 668 SMS free?
PTA does not charge for the check. Your mobile operator’s standard SMS rate may apply, and an empty SMS balance can stop the reply.
Why did 668 not reply?
The most common causes are dashes or spaces in the CNIC, an inactive SIM, low SMS balance or shortcode congestion. Retry with digits only, then use cnic.sims.pk.
Can I check someone else’s SIM details using their CNIC?
No. Only the CNIC holder can check their own record, and removing a SIM requires the holder’s biometric verification. Law enforcement can request records through the proper legal process.
What is the maximum number of SIMs on one CNIC in Pakistan?
Five active SIMs per CNIC under PTA’s current rule. A sixth cannot be issued until one is deactivated or transferred.
What is the difference between 667 and 668?
668 reports how many SIMs are registered on your CNIC. 667 reports mobile number portability status. Neither one reveals an owner’s name.
What is 76367 used for?
It returns the network of a mobile number. Send N followed by a space and the number to 76367. The service costs Rs 2 + tax.
How long does disowning a SIM take?
Most requests complete within 24 to 48 hours. If the count has not changed after that, follow up with the franchise and keep your receipt.
Do blocked SIMs still show on my CNIC?
Recently blocked or disowned SIMs can take a day or two to disappear from the count. Recheck with 668 after 48 hours before assuming the request failed.
Can a business verify a CNIC legally?
Yes, through NADRA’s authorised verification services such as Verisys, with the person’s consent. There is no public number-to-name lookup.
Is there an app for checking SIMs on my CNIC?
No PTA app is required. The official service is the 668 SMS and the cnic.sims.pk website, both of which work in any mobile browser.
