Yesterday at a launch event, Xiaomi along with the camera focused Mi 10 youth edition announced MIUI 12, an update to its custom user interface. MIUI 12 is still based on Android 10 but it brings few notable changes to the table. MIUI 12 brings new animations, dark mode 2.0, and a new health app.
User Interface:
The first thing users noticed on the newly announced MIUI 12 is the new user interface. In MIUI 12 the user interface has been updated to a cleaner look. There is now more space between the icons and the text seems bigger. All system settings will now be represented in a visual form like graphs. Xiaomi has named its new user interface “Sensory Visual Design”. Xiaomi added new floating windows named “Global Free Window” which will allow you to run every app in a small floating window on top of another app, which will be quite handy when using multiple apps at a time.

New Animations:
The opening and closing of the apps are being made faster with new animations, the new animations feel responsive and fluid. Xiaomi has improved all the system animation which now looks more responsive. It seems that Xiaomi has focused on everything as there is a change in the opening and closing of apps, screen rotation, rearranging, or deleting apps on the home screen.
New Navigations:
Xiaomi has updated the navigations on the MIUI 12. The new navigations now work like Android 10 navigations as there is a bar at the bottom and app switching is more fluid.
Dark Mode 2.0:
Xiaomi has also updated the Dark Mode in the MIUI 12. Dark Mode 2.0 will now be able to dim wallpapers. The new dark mode now also adjusts the brightness of wallpaper depending on the time of the day.
New Live Wallpapers:
Another new feature is the addition of the New Live Wallpapers. The new live wallpapers will bring space wallpapers that will zoom in from space view to the aerial view on unlocking the phone.
Privacy Features in MIUI 12:
There is a new privacy management feature in the MIUI 12 which keeps track of all the applications and their behavior. This feature will allow applications to ask for permission such as a camera or microphone or storage.
This feature also prevents apps for the unauthorized use of sensitive information such as contacts, call logs, etc. Xiaomi also adding a new virtual ID that prevents applications from accessing user’s personal information.
AI Calling:
With MIUI 12 Xiaomi has implemented AI calling, Xiaomi has been working on this feature for quite a long time and now it’s here in MIUI 12. With AI calling users can use a virtual assistant to answer or decline a call moreover, the virtual assistant can transcribe a call or gives suggestions during a conversation.
Mi Health:
Xiaomi has added an improved MI health app in which will now track your footstep using an AI algorithm, it can also track your sleep activity by just placing your phone under the pillow while sleeping.
Availability:
Xiaomi has made beta version available in China, while the stable version will be made public in June in China. The release date for the MIUI 12 stable for the international market will vary.
