SIM tracking in Pakistan – TechRupt cover

Last updated: October 2026.

There is no official service in Pakistan that tracks a SIM card’s live location. PTA does not provide location tracking, and no mobile operator will reveal a subscriber’s movements on request. What you can do depends on what you lost: locate your own phone with Find My Device or Find My iPhone, block a lost SIM with your operator, and block a stolen handset by IMEI through PTA’s complaint system.

SIM tracking vs phone tracking vs number tracking

These three phrases are used interchangeably, but they refer to different things:

  • SIM tracking: finding a lost SIM or checking which connections are registered on a CNIC. There is no GPS in a SIM card.
  • Phone tracking: locating a handset through the account it is signed into, such as Google or Apple, or through a police investigation.
  • Number tracking: matching a mobile number to a person or location. This is not a public service in Pakistan.

Any website promising to track a number from a search box is either collecting your data, charging for a fake result, or both. The technical reality is that location data sits with the network and the device account, not with a public lookup tool.

Method 1: Locate your own phone

Android

  1. Open google.com/android/find on another device and sign in with the same Google account.
  2. Select your device from the list.
  3. Use Play Sound, Secure Device or Erase Device as needed.
  4. Check the last known location, which may be minutes or hours old.

iPhone

  1. Open icloud.com/find or the Find My app on another Apple device.
  2. Sign in with your Apple ID.
  3. Select your iPhone and view its location.
  4. Use Play Sound, Lost Mode or Erase This Device.

Both services require the phone to be powered on, connected to the internet and signed into your account, with the feature enabled beforehand. A switched-off phone cannot report a live location.

Method 2: Block a lost SIM

  1. Call your operator’s helpline as soon as the SIM is missing.
  2. Request a SIM block for the lost number.
  3. Visit a franchise with your original CNIC and complete biometric verification.
  4. Ask for a replacement SIM if you want to keep the number.

Blocking the SIM stops calls, SMS and data on that number, which protects your bank OTPs and WhatsApp account. A replacement SIM usually restores the same number on a new card. Never delay this step while looking for the phone.

Method 3: Block a stolen phone by IMEI

  1. Find the IMEI by dialling *#06# on the phone, or from the box or warranty card.
  2. Open the PTA Complaint Management System at complaint.pta.gov.pk.
  3. Register a complaint and select Stolen Mobile Handset or IMEI Related Complaint.
  4. Enter the IMEI, your details and the OTP sent to your number.
  5. Submit the complaint and save the reference number.

Once verified, the handset is normally blocked across Pakistani networks within about 24 hours. The service is free. For a dual-SIM phone, block both IMEI numbers.

You can also report through CPLC at 1102 or web.cplc.app/mobile-lost-stolen, and file an FIR with the police. PTA blocks the device; it does not investigate the theft or recover the phone.

Method 4: Check an IMEI before buying a used phone

  1. Dial *#06# on the device to display its IMEI.
  2. Send the 15-digit IMEI by SMS to 8484.
  3. Read the reply, which reports whether the device is PTA registered or blocked.

Do this before paying for a second-hand phone. A blocked IMEI cannot be used on local networks, and a phone reported stolen can be blocked after you buy it, leaving you with no recourse.

Method 5: Check the SIMs registered on your CNIC

Send your 13-digit CNIC without dashes to 668, or enter it at cnic.sims.pk. The reply shows how many SIMs are active against your CNIC, usually by network. If you find a connection you do not recognise, disown it at the operator’s franchise. Our SIM owner details guide covers the full process.

What PTA cannot do

  • It cannot show the live location of a SIM or a phone.
  • It cannot tell you who owns a mobile number.
  • It cannot read your messages or call records.
  • It cannot recover a device; that is a police matter.

Location data can be obtained by law enforcement through the proper legal process, not through a public portal or a paid app. That is why a police report matters if the phone is stolen.

Signs of a SIM swap and what to do

  • Your phone suddenly loses network while others on the same operator are fine.
  • You receive an SMS that a SIM or eSIM was issued or activated.
  • Your bank OTPs stop arriving and you are locked out of accounts.
  • You get calls asking you to confirm a code you did not request.

Contact your operator immediately, block the SIM, check your SIM count with 668 and inform your bank. If you suspect fraud, file a complaint with PTA and report the incident to the police.

Scams to avoid

  • Apps that claim to track any number after a payment.
  • Websites that ask for the target’s CNIC or a photo of your ID.
  • Callers claiming to be from PTA and asking for an OTP.
  • Services promising to unblock a stolen IMEI for a fee.

PTA’s blocking and complaint services are free. A third party that charges for an official process is either reselling something you can do yourself or not delivering at all.
